Business

Accounting I & II
Instructor: Mrs. Angle

This class teaches you the core of managing your business’ money.  No business will be successful if the management or owners do not know the amount of money coming in and going out, what their greatest expenses are, what customer is paying or not paying their bills.  In this class Accounting I is accurately managing the finances of your business.  You will have assignments every day after discussion of the chapter section is finished.  You will use basic math skills.  Suggested Jr./Sr. class, but if very serious about this as a career, you may want to consider starting as a sophomore or even a freshman if you can fit it in your schedule.  When you finish this class, you could be an accountant for a small business.

Business Math
Instructor: Mrs. Angle

If you are unsteady with story problems, this is the class for you.  You will figure your checkbook, paycheck, car loan, house loan, percentages, discounts, inventories, insurance costs, and interest rates, just to name a few areas of this class.  This is a basic math credit for any year in school.

Introduction to Business

Instructor: Mrs. Angle

Business:  Do you know what the relationship is between businesses and the consumer (that’s you)?  Did you know that there is a business cycle and an economic cycle (ups and downs or making money or Not making money, in our U.S. business and throughout the world)?  Did you know that competition is good for the consumer AND the business?  All of these facts and questions, plus many more will be answered during this class.  After this class, you’ll be a savvy shopper, and you may even get the “bug” to open your own business.

Business Communications

Instructor: Mrs. Angle

With this class background, you would look for a job in technical writing.  You will first review you grammar skills, because you will be constructing different types of business documents.  Some of these documents will be:  a letter of application, a resume, a follow-up letter, work manuals, surveys, set of instructions, different types of business letters (routine, request, persuasive, positive-response, negative-response).  You’ll also learn about sentence construction….very important whether writing business communications or other types of communications.  This class would be Soph./Jr./Sr. grades.

Personal Finance

Instructor: Mrs. Angle

This class will provide you with a wealth of information about your money management abilities and financing your money.  You will learn the positive effects of having the proper tools to manage your money along with the negative effects if you don’t manage your money correctly.  Managing a checking account, investing your money, taxes you are required to pay to the government, using credit wisely, career choices that will provide you with the right wage to fulfill your future plans are some of the topics covered in this class.

Virtual Business

Instructor Mrs. Angle

Challenging, yes, but worth taking to find out how to manage a business (a warehouse or 34 Stop) along with learning to estimate the purchasing and pricing of your merchandise.  This class is done by using an animated software program; therefore, you’ll be consistently on the computer.  Some of you will quickly find out about “bankruptcy”, but not to worry because you’ll turn your mistakes into profits.  This is reserved for the seniors/and possibly juniors) so it’s fresh in their minds when they graduate.

Music

High School Band
Director: Ms. Goble

The Colman-Egan High School Band is open to anyone who has prior experience in playing a musical instrument. The students grade will be determined throughout the year. This grade will stem from ability, leadership, performances and by attending other musical functions in the area. An A+ is only possible if the student meets all of these criteria.

This class is designed to not only challenge students but to give them an opportunity to express themselves through music. Students are strongly encouraged to take private lessons from the instructor or from another teacher who may specialize in a certain instrument, (i.e. professors at a local university). This however, is not mandatory and will not be determined as a factor for grades.

During the marching band season, the High School band will consist of students from grades 7-12. This will then break into two bands, a junior high and a senior high band at the semester. Students in grades 7 and 8 may audition for the high school band, schedule permitting.

Chairs in the High School Concert Band will be determined by audition. Students will be given audition material prior to the audition. This is more of a formality than anything, but is mandatory for the placement of chairs in the band.

Junior High Band
Director: Ms. Goble

The Junior High Band will be a new addition to the curriculum for the 1998-1999 school year. This band will be part of the high school band for the first semester and will become its own band in the spring.

The requirements for this band will be, to have previous experience in playing a musical instrument. Students will be required to take an individual lesson once a week from the instructor to fulfill partial requirement of the class. As with the High School Band, students in the junior high band will have their grades determined by their weekly lesson, performances, leadership, and other outside musical performances. The students will be responsible for practicing a certain amount of time each week to fulfill part of their lesson grade. The student will keep track of the time and have a parent or guardian sign it. An A+ will be possible if the student meets these criteria.

The Junior High Band will also have chair placements by audition only. These will be run in the same manner as the high school auditions. Students from the junior high band may be eligible for playing in the high school concert band if their schedule permits and they have successfully auditioned into the concert band.

Fine Arts
